Where does the time go...wow, it is now June of 2024 and lots of water has flowed under the proverbial bridge. I did the Hills to Shore Studio tour again this year and it was a huge success. I am hanging an exhibition at Gonzoles Cafe in Fairfield on Monday, June 17 which will hang for a month.
In August I am the featured Artist in Residence at the Laurel Point Inn and I will have several larger pieces on site at the hotel. I still just love painting and feel so blessed to have this passion in my life. I will try and be better at keeping up this blog but for some reason the writing seems to fall through the cracks. Equinox is fast approaching and bringing with it the first day of summer, enjoy your time with friends and family.

Good morning, there is a lot going on this spring and I hope to connect with some of you in person. I am part of an exhibition right now at Gallery Splash in Esquimalt in the Library building. I will be part of the Hills to Shore Studio Tour on May 13 and 14 and I will post the address later. I will then have a feature in Sidney on May 21 to June 3 at Alexander's Cafe. It is fun to be inspired and busy after a couple of quiet years. Enjoy the blessings of spring, the blossoms and the return of the light.
Hello again, I just found out a couple of days ago that I will be featured at the Esquimalt Library Gallery from September 6 to October 5, 2022. I should have 15-18 paintings and I hope with the fall moving in people will begin reading and checking the amazing new library and on the way in you can check out my paintings. I will keep you updated.
Have a stupendous summer and tomorrow if you have a chance check out the Paint In on Moss Street, it is awesome. Summer has finally arrived in Victoria after two months of cool and wet weather. The sunshine and warmth are back and energy is being restored. I currently have a piece in Art Rental and Sales at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Small Works Summer Exhibition. The show is beautiful and if you have a chance you should check it out.
I did a residency at the Coast Hotel for the month of May and I had over 30 pieces placed throughout the lobby and the dining-room. I am currently working on some larger paintings and I have a venue but the date is yet to be confirmed...news to follow. As you can see I have been absent from this blog for almost two years. I had personal issues to deal with and I am now finally able to get back to my love of bringing paint to canvas. I hope everyone enjoys their summer and I look forward to reconnecting in the fall. Good morning, a beautiful sunny day in Victoria and I have a few logistical things to take care of and then I will get outside for some fresh air.
I am part of the Small Works Exhibition at the Art Rental and Sales Gallery in Victoria, BC. This exhibition is hanging in the Massey Gallery and is also on-line (virtual). There are many wonderful paintings and I think during these difficult times art can definitely uplift our spirits. The other news I have is I am in the process of ending my stay at Rock Bay Square where I have had a studio for the past 6 years. It is with deep regret and sadness that I am moving my studio home. Due to personal circumstances with my spouse I must spend more time at home. I am setting a studio up in our second bedroom and look forward to seeing what transpires from a new environment. I will be part of an exhibition in March and I will keep you posted if it will be virtual or an in-person exhibition. I hope everyone finds a way to find joy during this particular holiday season. We are blessed to have family in Victoria and so we will still be able to connect with them. Happy Holidays and Many Blessings to everyone. A friend of mine wrote something beautiful that he said I can incorporate into my website or wherever I would like to post it.
He is a wonderful writer and a collector of my paintings and this is what he said: "Susan seems to have a talent for capturing in lush colour these moments at either end of the spectrum where things are emerging out of nothingness or disappearing back into it. Her paintings are a reminder that solidness and stability don't exist; that much that seems permanent is in fact evanescent; that is is in fact wise to catch the incredible beauty of the vanishing or emerging moment. Rather than casting her vote for realism or abstractionism, Susan's paintings catch abstraction coalescing into form and form dissolving back into the squander of shade and colour." Wow!!! I was so honoured to have my paintings described this way and it makes me realize how unique everyone's perspective is and that my only job is to paint what I love. I hope that everyone is well during this difficult isolation time and that we come out the other side of this with more refined viewpoints. It is hard to believe another full year has passed and we are once again in the studio presenting our new work. I have some lovely new pieces as it has been a wonderfully creative year. Please stop by for a visit and a gander.
Hours: Friday, November 22, 4-8 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 10:00-4:00 p.m. www.susangeddes.com email: [email protected] Instagram: geddes.susan Hard to believe it is October 1!!! I am now back in my studio painting up a storm for many events that are fast approaching.
I have an exhibition coming up on October 22 with two friends at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre in the Cafe. We will be exhibiting until November 11. I am getting other pieces ready for the Small Works Exhibition at the Art Gallery. Yesterday my granddaughter gave me a quest to try and paint two paintings without any BLUE. It turns out that in the past couple of years blue has popped up in almost all of my pieces...stay tuned and I will post the results when they are finished. I must fly lots of painting to accomplish. Until next time enjoy this glorious time of clean pure light. It is now mid-summer and the weather has been amazing the whole time. It was a bit cold in July but now the warm weather has arrived. I will be hanging some of my paintings at the Emporium in Brentwood Bay on August 1. This is a beautiful gallery/cafe/gift shop. If you are out that way please drop by, they also have delicious coffee and amazing treats.
In September I will be at the Delta Ocean Pointe in Victoria as the Artist-in-Residence. I look forward to catching up with friends and meeting new people. Enjoy the rest of summer and may light, colour, and texture fill your days with joy. Until later...... We are having the most glorious spring/summer weather. It is warmer than usual for this time of year but maybe this is our new norm. It is a month in Victoria full of flowers in bloom and makes one think about painting them. I am trying to put the essence of the flowers into new paintings without actually replicating the blossoms.
I have started a new series called "All That Glistens is Not Gold", no photos available yet but soon to come. Enjoy every blessed day and savour the weather. |
